ON JANUARY FRIDAY THE 13th MY DOCTOR CONFIRMED THE DIAGNOSIS.
What started as a normal day , became a turning point of my life. I had been complaining of normal cough and chest pains and gone to see my doctor few days back.
My doctor had run few blood tests and upon review he recommended that I go admit myself to Robert Wood Johnson hospital in New Brunswick asap. I was told that I had Acute Leukemia. I learned that they would have to kill all of my white blood cells which were riddled with cancer.
I have started my first phase of chemotherapy and am surrounded by my loving family and friends. Its along road ahead of me, but I know I can beat this and will be doing what I Love !! This is just small “roadblock” in life and with your help, I am determined that I can fight this…
Join a marrow registry. It takes just a few minutes to sign up, and you can be the one to save a life.
Modern marrow donations are painless (like giving blood).

While Ankush still needs a bone marrow transplant, it’s important to remember that
he is not the only one. The struggle to find a donor is not over for thousands of
minority patients every year who find themselves in similar circumstances.
www.cheekswab.org is a new website that’s
launched in the last two weeks in hopes of putting together some information to
better inform prospective donors about the need, process, and experience of both
joining the registry and donating bone marrow. Please visit cheekswab.org to learn
more, and remember to sign up for a donor kit if you haven’t already! Spreading
awareness is the first step to saving lives!
In the meantime, Ankush will receive chemotherapy while his doctors work to identify
and confirm a potential donor. We hope he’s able to have a transplant as soon as
possible.
Although it will be very difficult to find a single match, with your support, we
may not only help Ankush, but also many other leukemic patients who are in need
of a donor.
Please, tell your friends and family about the need for marrow donation. There are
hundreds of patients waiting for a transplant.
